The Climate Hazard Assessment – Isingiro District examines how climate variability and change are affecting one of Uganda’s largest refugee-hosting districts. It analyses historical and projected changes in rainfall and temperature, as well as seasonal drought and localized flood risks, and their implications for agriculture, livestock, water availability, livelihoods and settlement infrastructure.
The assessment finds that Isingiro is likely to become warmer and wetter by mid-century, but increased rainfall will not eliminate water stress due to rising temperatures and evapotranspiration. Seasonal drought remains a major hazard, while localized flooding affects low-lying areas and settlements. The report highlights the need for climate-resilient agriculture, improved water management, early warning, flood management and resilient settlement planning for both refugee and host communities.
